The Sturtevant Dauntless is bold, daring, and adventurous just like the African professional hunter that it was designed for. The Dauntless is a flawless combination of rugged strength and uncompromising beauty. The Sturtevant 2 Lug express style action is perfectly suited for dangerous game; it handles cartridges and pressures that no other hunting action is design for. The receiver is constructed of the finest grade 8620 steel and case hardened to precisely 38 Rockwell-C. It also features a controlled round feeding system, bolt guide, 3 position safety, manual ejector, and your choice of several integral style quick release scope bases, which can be removed and reinstalled without losing zero. The stock is built from an exhibition grade hardwood blank. Each stock custom fitted to your body measurements and checkered in a pattern to your liking. If you prefer to have “show and go” style stocks and you would like a companion stock made from composite fiberglass for field use it is included for a nominal fee (as shown in the picture above). The Dauntless rifle comes standard with a precision grade chrome-molybdenum barrel that is turned to half octagon half round dimensions; this allows the incorporation of several features. The first feature being an integral quarter rib that houses Sturtevant 3 leaf express sights, which are hand regulated to the custom load for your rifle at your preferred distances. Other standard features include an integral front sling stud, an interchangeable front sight blade, and a threaded barrel for the installation and use of a muzzle brake or the thread protecting cap whichever is desired at the time. Our Thunderbolt Cartridges are the preferred chambering for a Dauntless because of their utterly unbeatable performance, but we use the caliber of your choice, .338 bore and larger. Like all our rifles any feature can be modified, removed and added to your specifications at the time of order. As with all our rifles the Dauntless comes as a complete package: the rifle, custom fitted leather bound case, cleaning rod and accoutrements, 20 rounds of ammunition custom developed for your rifle (dangerous game calibers come with 20 rounds of solids and 20 rounds of soft points), load data for each custom ammunition, and custom dies if you are using a Sturtevant designed cartridge.
